The articles that we have found is on the statistics and opinions on both sides, they connect to the universal theme because this is a conflict that has been going on throughout history we do not know how long it has been happening, this is what we would like to find out too. This has been affecting our society, they have come up with protest groups called Black Lives Matter. These articles have been connecting to almost all of the generalizations. In the exploration of the topic, at first I thought that some of these black men are getting killed for no reason. Now I learned the it is partially their fault too, for example; Philando Castile was pulled over for a broken tail light, but it ended wrong when he said the he was armed with a gun, the police had no intention to kill him, he thought he was grabbing the gun. In the video, I saw the police officer and he seem like he was scared and scarred from this. We did not want to change anything, even though we had some trouble coming up with the driving question, but we managed. As we continue, we hope to find more information on how it may be impacting the next generation. We hope that once we finish this project that we give a solution to people to solve this conflict. With this project, I hope to continue to work on the communication part. We are kind of good and bad at the same time.
The topic did not change we decided to keep it and stick with it the whole way through. For the driving question, it got shorter and it started as, “How does the system of Racial Bias, the rules and patterns within law enforcement, and public perceptions converge to create the conflict of police brutality in America?”, then it was changed into to “What forces converge to create the conflict of police brutality in America?” My group is doing an interview. We are going to interview my uncle, who is a police officer here in Santa Ana. We want two get both sides of the story, with the news sites we found most of the were bias and leaning toward the side of the minorities and not the police. It was kinda hard to come up with the questions because we can not be bias on them and we have to be neutral. The easy part was that I already had a family member that was a police officer and that works in the field. In my next steps, we want two work on the ISD and the Really big idea chart for the project. For this big component, I need to be able to record this and get all the words that he said for the ISD. So far the collaboration for this project is going well, we are getting things done and doing well on all the components for the final project.
I learned that when policemen use brutality, it won’t look so pretty. Many police officers feel the same about police brutality. I learned that I need to communicate better with my partner. I want to show the police officers side with the uniform and the clothes that they wear when they are off duty. I want to show the side that everyone is blind on, police officers reality and how it is affecting their personal life. Our board needs to get deeper with our research and come up with resolution that could bring peace to this conflict. We still have to come up with our creative piece, it is a little difficult to come up with a creative piece that includes both sides. I need to ask the teacher what details need to be changed to make my board look better. We finally got our board approved and on the same day, we got our creative piece approved, we did a interactive piece. We have a 3 Situations and they give their opinion about what they would do. So far the collaboration for this project is going well, we are getting things done and doing well on all the components for the final project.
Our Driving Question is “What Forces Converge to Create the Conflict of Police Brutality in America?”. We wanted Diana to speak the Spanish part and I do the English part. She would do the relevant resolution and I talk about about the ISD. We both switch parts and both answer the questions that people ask. The importance of revising is really important, this will improve the presentation and improve the grade I will get for it. With the student led research, I learned that police officers think that the News exaggerate the facts and use their opinion to catch the person’s attention. While presenting in front of others, I learned that I sweat a lot and I need to speak up louder and we need to both present the information equally. I would have not procrastinate and did the work earlier. I would have liked more time on the board to do it better. I learned that creativity takes a lot of time to do and make it really nice. I would tell people to not procrastinate and get things done as early as you can. That would be the best way possible to get things done.
